Link Building
Publisher placement
Publisher placement is a publisher-controlled decision to include and position a citation, contribution, advertisement or other supplied material within its property.
What it means
The term records who controlled publication, what material or link was supplied, the editorial or commercial relationship, permitted changes, disclosure and link qualification. A publisher may independently select a citation or accept paid, contributed or user-generated material; those are different relationship states despite sharing publisher-controlled placement.
Why it matters
Control and relationship evidence prevent teams from relabelling sponsored, contributed or negotiated material as independent editorial coverage.
Example
A trade publication accepts a contributed analysis, edits the copy, chooses the section, discloses the contributor and marks a compensated destination link as sponsored; each control and relationship state is recorded.
Common mistakes
Do not use “publisher placement” as a euphemism for buying links, assume editorial independence from publication on a media site, require followed attributes, hide supplied copy or compensation, skip disclosure review or guarantee acceptance.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
publisher identity, supplied copy, edit rights, compensation, contract, disclosure, rel attribute, rendered placement
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify hidden relationships, required followed attributes, missing disclosure, supplied copy labelled independent and rendered markup that contradicts the agreement.
Recommendation prepared
The placement record separates publisher control, contribution, compensation, disclosure and relationship qualification before approval.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees supplied materials, approval history, relationship evidence, exact disclosure and rendered link attributes.
Execution
AYSA can prepare the evidence package and supported owned-site disclosure or markup; it does not purchase, accept or alter an external publisher placement.
Verification
A rendered-page check records publication location, disclosure and relationship attributes separately from referral or search observations.
Limits
Private agreements may be incomplete, publishers retain final control and a correctly disclosed placement does not guarantee traffic or search benefit.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is every publisher placement an editorial link?
No. Publishers also place contributed, sponsored, advertising and user-generated material under different relationship states.
Can a contract require a followed publisher link?
That creates search-policy risk; publishers should retain appropriate qualification choices and compensated links should be identified.
