Index Freshness

Index freshness is the degree to which a search engine's stored representation reflects the current accessible version of a URL.

What it means

A practical observation compares the page's substantive update time with the search engine's last crawl and indexed output. The interval describes version lag, not content quality or guaranteed ranking speed.

Why it matters

When an index contains an older version, search results or grounded systems may reflect obsolete text, prices or Structured data. Discovery, Crawling, rendering and Indexing can each contribute delay.

Example

A page changes a product price today, but URL Inspection shows a last crawl from yesterday and the result still displays the old value. The index is not yet fresh.

Common mistakes

Do not confuse a successful submission with Indexing, fabricate lastmod dates or repeatedly notify unchanged URLs. Avoid promising immediate recrawling after a sitemap or IndexNow request.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

page update time, last crawl, cached result text, sitemap lastmod, submission response

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can identify a mismatch between the approved live revision and observable crawl or index evidence.

Recommendation prepared

The proposal addresses the relevant discovery, access, canonical or notification issue without changing the protected URL.

Approval preview

The user sees live content, last-crawl evidence and the exact technical action proposed.

Execution

AYSA can correct supported sitemap metadata and submit approved changed URLs where a connector is available.

Verification

AYSA verifies the live URL immediately and monitors later crawl and indexed-version evidence separately.

Limits

AYSA cannot force a search engine to crawl, index or expose a revised version on a fixed schedule.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Does submitting an updated URL guarantee a fresh index immediately?

No. Submission informs a participating system about a change; crawling, processing and indexing still occur separately.
