On-Page SEO
Internal linking
Internal linking connects pages on the same website so people and crawlers can discover related information and understand page relationships.
What it means
A useful internal link is placed where its destination helps the reader continue. Link location, destination quality, anchor wording and the surrounding context matter more than repeating an exact Keyword across every page.
Why it matters
Internal links expose deeper URLs, connect supporting material to canonical pages and clarify information architecture. They can also reveal orphan pages and routes that no longer deserve promotion.
Example
A guide about duplicate products can link its canonical-tag explanation to the glossary and its implementation steps to the technical guide, while the product landing page keeps a separate commercial intent.
Common mistakes
Avoid site-wide exact-match anchors, self-links, links to redirects and automated links that create cannibalization. More links are not automatically better when destinations do not help the reader.
