Link Building
Link Authority
Link authority is an ambiguous industry label for the perceived influence or credibility associated with a link or linking source; it has no universal public formula unless a specific provider and metric are named.
What it means
The phrase may refer loosely to graph influence, source reputation, topical fit, editorial independence or a vendor score. These are different objects. A useful record replaces the label with observable fields or names the exact product, scope, version and dataset. Google warns that third-party tools do not have access to its internal ranking data.
Why it matters
Disambiguation prevents teams from comparing unlike scores, buying placements against an undefined threshold or reporting a vendor prediction as Google's.
Example
Instead of “high-authority link,” a report records an independent standards body, relevant source page, descriptive citation, no known compensation and the separate Moz or Majestic values with observation dates.
Common mistakes
Do not define authority through domain age, traffic, followed status or one score; mix provider names; imply endorsement; hide missing relationship evidence; use a threshold as placement price or promise search impact.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
label meaning, source URL, target URL, provider, metric name, scope, index date, model version, editorial evidence
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify undefined authority claims, cross-provider substitutions, scope mismatches and third-party predictions presented as search-engine facts.
Recommendation prepared
The report replaces ambiguous labels with evidence dimensions or a fully attributed vendor metric and observation date.
Approval preview
The user sees the original claim, proposed meaning, provider documentation, scope, data date, limitations and revised wording.
Execution
AYSA can normalize approved reporting labels and store metric provenance; it cannot convert vendor scores into Google signals.
Verification
Subsequent imports retain provider and date so score changes are not mistaken for changes in the underlying site alone.
Limits
Provider models are proprietary and mutable, while a clarified label still does not guarantee traffic, rankings or editorial value.
