AYSA Execution

Manual Review

Manual review is a human examination of a defined content version, decision or system output against explicit criteria before a consequential action proceeds.

What it means

The reviewer needs relevant competence, access to evidence, enough time and authority to reject or escalate. Merely viewing an output, correcting grammar or clicking approve does not demonstrate effective oversight.

Why it matters

Automation can be confidently wrong, while reviewers can become biased by fluent output or overloaded queues. Risk-based sampling, independent checks and documented uncertainty make human review more than ceremonial.

Example

A medical editor checks every dosage claim against the cited regulator source, rejects ambiguous statements and records the reviewed version; a copy editor's earlier spelling pass is not counted as that review.

Common mistakes

Do not assign reviewers outside their expertise, hide model uncertainty, approve after publication or assume any human touch satisfies an Article 50 exception or high-risk oversight duty.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

review criterion, reviewer role, source evidence, decision, escalation status

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can flag supported workflows where review criteria, reviewer authority or version evidence are missing.

Recommendation prepared

The proposal assigns the correct role, evidence and escalation path for the identified risk.

Approval preview

The reviewer sees the exact output, supporting sources, automated warnings, uncertainties and allowed decisions.

Execution

AYSA can hold supported changes until the configured reviewer records an explicit decision.

Verification

AYSA checks that the executed version and conditions match the recorded review outcome.

Limits

AYSA cannot make an unqualified reviewer competent or turn a procedural click into legal compliance.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is any human edit a manual review?

No. Meaningful review requires defined criteria, suitable expertise, evidence and authority to change or stop the outcome.

Does manual review remove every AI transparency duty?

No. Its effect is provision-specific; provider marking and other duties must be assessed separately.
