Structured answer

A structured answer is a human-facing response whose information relationships are expressed through meaningful elements such as headings, ordered steps, lists, tables, labels or definition pairs.

What it means

Structure follows the task: sequence uses ordered steps, alternatives may use a comparison, and conditions need labels close to their values. Semantic HTML helps people and assistive technology navigate those relationships. Structured data is a separate machine-readable description; Google requires it to represent visible content and does not guarantee a rich result even when markup is valid.

Why it matters

Separating presentation structure from Structured data prevents teams from adding schema or decorative formatting that does not improve the actual answer.

Example

A troubleshooting answer uses a symptom heading, ordered diagnostic steps, a two-column result table and a rollback note; JSON-LD is added only if a supported type truthfully applies.

Common mistakes

Do not call any bullet list structured, confuse HTML hierarchy with JSON-LD, use tables for linear instructions, hide conditions, mark up invisible answers or claim that structure guarantees extraction.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

task relationship, heading hierarchy, list semantics, table headers, reading order, visible facts, JSON-LD fidelity, mobile layout

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can identify decorative lists, broken heading levels, inaccessible tables, mismatched markup and qualifiers separated from their claims.

Recommendation prepared

The workflow proposes a semantic HTML structure and, only where supported, matching structured-data corrections.

Approval preview

The reviewer sees the information model, HTML diff, reading order, breakpoint evidence and any structured-data eligibility limits.

Execution

AYSA can apply approved HTML and supported markup changes; it cannot guarantee extraction or a rich-result appearance.

Verification

The live answer is checked for hierarchy, keyboard and screen-reader order, mobile behavior and visible-to-schema fidelity.

Limits

Automated checks do not prove full accessibility, and review does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is a structured answer the same as structured data?

No. The answer is visible content structure; structured data is a machine-readable description of supported visible content.

Do bullet points make every answer structured?

No. The chosen elements must express a real sequence, hierarchy or relationship.
