Answer box
An answer box is a visibly bounded interface container that presents an answer together with any displayed source links, labels, controls or status messages.
What it means
The label describes observable layout, not one provider technology. A Google Featured snippet is a documented special box, while another product may use a panel, card or generated-response region with different rules. Analysis must record the provider-native feature name, component boundary and non-answer states instead of assuming that every rectangular result is the same feature.
Why it matters
A UI-level definition lets teams compare presentation and accessibility without merging unrelated provider features or inferring private retrieval logic.
Example
A capture records a bordered response, its source links, expand control, feedback buttons and loading error as one component while preserving Google's or another provider's own product label.
Common mistakes
Do not use answer box as a universal provider category, call an ordinary snippet a generated answer, omit controls or error states, infer ranking position from layout or promise that page formatting creates the box.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
provider, native feature label, component boundary, answer region, source links, controls, loading state, error state
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify mixed component boundaries, invented provider labels, missing controls and screenshots that omit the surrounding result context.
Recommendation prepared
The workflow creates a versioned capture contract for the declared answer-box component and its visible states.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees the provider label, included and excluded regions, capture context, state vocabulary and prohibited ranking inferences.
Execution
AYSA can monitor supported public interfaces; it cannot inspect the provider's private selection, generation or ranking systems.
Verification
New captures are checked against the same component boundary while changes in labels or controls create a new version.
Limits
A visible container does not expose internal causation, and captures or review do not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is every answer box a featured snippet?
No. Featured snippet is a Google feature; answer box is a broader observational UI label.
Can publishers mark a page as an answer box?
No. Publishers can structure their pages, but the external interface is controlled by its provider.
