Brand mention
A brand mention is one source occurrence of a name, alias, product reference or other expression resolved to a specific brand entity.
What it means
The occurrence may be linked or unlinked and must retain its passage, medium, source, relationship and capture time. Schema.org defines a mention as a reference that need not make the work primarily about the concept. FTC guidance also shows that whether a brand reference is an advertising endorsement depends on context and material relationships, not the word match alone.
Why it matters
Occurrence-level records let analysts correct entity resolution and deduplicate copies before aggregating visibility, sentiment or relationship categories.
Example
A podcast transcript names a product and its maker once; the record stores the exact passage, episode time, Brand entity, no hyperlink and an unknown commercial relationship pending review.
Common mistakes
Do not count a page only once when context requires occurrence records, merge namesakes, infer endorsement or sentiment from presence, omit material relationships, treat linked and unlinked states as rankings or aggregate before deduplication.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
expression, passage, source, brand candidates, hyperlink state, sentiment evidence, relationship evidence, capture time
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify unresolved names, missing context and occurrence records that claim sentiment, independence or endorsement without evidence.
Recommendation prepared
The workflow stores the singular occurrence and separates entity, link, sentiment, relationship and duplicate decisions.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees the source passage, candidate brands, AI-assisted resolution provenance, relationship evidence and proposed fields.
Execution
AYSA can approve and store occurrence records and update supported monitoring views; it cannot determine hidden commercial relationships automatically.
Verification
Reprocessing retains model and reviewer history so changed resolution does not erase the captured source state.
Limits
Source access and relationship data can be incomplete, and provenance or human review does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.
