Log file analysis
Log file analysis is the examination of server or edge access records to reconstruct requests, responses and crawler activity.
What it means
A useful record commonly includes time, requested path, method, response status, bytes and user agent; formats vary by server and proxy. For crawler research, user-agent text is only a starting point because it can be spoofed and may require IP verification using the crawler owner's documented method.
Why it matters
Logs reveal actual server requests that analytics tags may never record, including failed resources, redirects and bot visits. They help compare declared priorities with observed crawl behavior, but do not explain Indexing or ranking by themselves.
Example
Filter a defined seven-day period for verified Googlebot requests, group paths by template and status, then inspect spikes in 404, 5xx and parameter URLs. Compare the distribution with sitemap and internal-link inventories before proposing crawl controls.
Common mistakes
Do not upload secrets, query strings or personal data without minimization and access controls. Avoid trusting user-agent strings alone, mixing incompatible time zones, ignoring CDN logs, or interpreting request frequency as evidence that a URL is indexed.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
Timestamp, request path and method, response status, user agent, host or edge source
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can aggregate a minimized log export to find crawler-heavy patterns, errors, redirects and important templates receiving little observed activity.
Recommendation prepared
The analysis links each anomaly to URL examples and a reversible technical or linking action, while keeping index conclusions separate.
Approval preview
The user reviews the date range, filters, privacy treatment, grouped evidence and proposed action before any site change.
Execution
AYSA analyzes user-provided or connected logs and can execute supported WordPress corrections; it does not alter server retention or security policy.
Verification
AYSA verifies immediate site changes with fresh requests and compares later log windows only when equivalent data is available.
Limits
Incomplete retention, CDN gaps, spoofed agents and sampling can limit conclusions; crawl frequency does not prove indexation.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Can analytics replace server logs for crawler analysis?
No. Many crawlers do not execute analytics scripts, while server and edge logs record the request regardless of client-side tracking.
