Link Building
Natural link
A natural link is a hyperlink an independent source creates without the target controlling, purchasing, exchanging or contractually requiring that placement.
What it means
Natural describes the acquisition relationship, not the visual position, anchor, attribute or ranking value. Many natural links are editorially chosen, but an editorial-looking link can still come from sponsorship, contribution or another arrangement; evidence may remain unknown.
Why it matters
A relationship-based definition prevents teams from fabricating natural-looking patterns or calling any unsolicited-looking Backlink independently earned without provenance.
Example
A researcher discovers a public dataset and cites it without contact, payment or reciprocal agreement; the observation is labelled natural only when the available acquisition record supports that conclusion.
Common mistakes
Do not infer naturalness from a followed attribute, branded anchor, high-authority domain or in-content placement, hide Outreach or gifts, manufacture diversity, demand the label from publishers or promise ranking credit.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
source control, target control, contact history, payment, gift, exchange, contract, source context
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify a natural label contradicted by known campaign, compensation, reciprocal or contractual evidence.
Recommendation prepared
The record uses confirmed, contradicted or unknown acquisition states and keeps editorial context separate.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees provenance, relationships, source context, uncertainty and the proposed classification.
Execution
AYSA can store an approved evidence classification; it cannot prove private publisher intent or create an independent placement.
Verification
New provenance evidence updates the decision history without erasing the original observation.
Limits
Private relationships may be unavailable, and a natural link does not guarantee traffic, authority or ranking benefit.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is every editorial link natural?

Does a followed link prove natural acquisition?
