Semantic keyword

A semantic keyword is an informal SEO label for a word or phrase that is contextually related to a page's topic or audience need.

What it means

Useful examples include entities, attributes, synonyms and naturally associated questions that clarify meaning. Google does not document a separate `semantic Keyword` field that publishers must populate, and contextual coverage is not a prescribed word list.

Why it matters

Relevant vocabulary can make an explanation more precise for readers and reduce ambiguity between meanings. Its value comes from the information conveyed, not from inserting a vendor-generated collection of related terms.

Example

A page about Apple the company may naturally mention iPhone, macOS and Cupertino, while a page about the fruit uses varieties, orchards and nutrition to establish a different context.

Common mistakes

Do not buy mandatory semantic-word lists, add unrelated entities merely for topical breadth or claim that every associated noun is a ranking factor. Write for the intended meaning first.
