AI Visibility
AI Citation Authority
AI Citation Authority is an analyst-defined assessment of the relevance, evidence quality and claim support of resources visibly cited within a declared set of AI output captures.
What it means
The assessment must publish its dimensions, weights, capture coverage and reviewer decisions. It can compare whether cited resources are primary or secondary, current, attributable and supportive of the associated response span. It is not a metric exposed by Google, OpenAI or another provider, and Google warns that third parties do not have access to its internal ranking or AI systems.
Why it matters
A bounded rubric can support source review, while the word authority without a disclosed method would turn visible citations into an invented universal score.
Example
For 100 captured citations, reviewers label source type, date, methodology visibility and claim support; the resulting assessment is reported as AYSA rubric version 1.2 for that sample, not as Google's or OpenAI's authority score.
Common mistakes
Do not call it a provider metric, reuse Moz or Majestic scores without labeling them, score uncaptured resources, infer causal influence, hide weights, collapse claim support into domain popularity or promise ranking.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
capture set, citation markers, associated spans, source type, publication date, method visibility, claim support, rubric version
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify undisclosed weights, mixed samples, provider-score claims, domain-popularity proxies and unsupported causal interpretations.
Recommendation prepared
The workflow prepares a versioned rubric with observable fields, manual judgments, exclusions and sensitivity notes.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees every cited resource, evidence field, AI-assisted suggestion, human judgment, uncertainty and aggregate calculation.
Execution
AYSA can publish an approved sample-bound assessment; it cannot access or recreate a provider's internal score.
Verification
A rerun retains the rubric version, source snapshots, reviewer decisions and differences caused by sample or method changes.
Limits
The assessment is not a ranking factor, and provenance or human review does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is AI Citation Authority a Google or OpenAI metric?
No. It is an analyst-defined assessment that is meaningful only with its rubric, sample and version disclosed.
Does a high assessment prove that a source influenced an AI answer?
No. Visible citation and source quality do not reveal a provider's private retrieval or generation causation.
