AI Visibility

AI Citation Flow

AI Citation Flow is an analyst-defined sequence that traces visible citation evidence from a captured AI response span through its attribution element to the resolved source and later observations.

What it means

The sequence can describe capture, citation marker, redirect resolution, destination review, content version and recapture. It is not Majestic's proprietary Citation Flow metric, a provider ranking factor or proof that information flowed from the source into the generated wording. PROV can represent activities and derivation claims only when their evidence is declared.

Why it matters

A staged evidence record helps teams locate broken Attribution or changing destinations without converting interface order into a causal model.

Example

A response span links through a tracking URL to report version 3; the flow records the marker, Redirect chain, final resource, support review and a later recapture where the citation disappears, without assigning the report causal credit.

Common mistakes

Do not confuse it with Majestic Citation Flow, invent provider stages, interpret screen order as influence, omit redirects or versions, merge unrelated recaptures, score authority from path length or guarantee persistence.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

capture ID, response span, citation marker, interface position, redirect hops, resolved source, source version, review outcome, recapture

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can identify broken or looping destinations, missing stages, metric confusion, unsupported causal edges and overwritten historical states.

Recommendation prepared

The workflow creates a versioned sequence with observed, resolved and reviewed stages labeled separately.

Approval preview

The user sees the original capture, each redirect and source version, AI-assisted alignment, reviewer judgment and unsupported inferences.

Execution

AYSA can store approved evidence sequences and supported destination checks; it cannot expose a provider's internal information flow.

Verification

Later checks append destination and recapture states while preserving the original sequence and methodology.

Limits

The flow is an analytical record rather than a ranking metric, and provenance or human review does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is AI Citation Flow the same as Majestic Citation Flow?

No. Majestic Citation Flow is a named proprietary link metric; this term describes an analyst-defined citation evidence sequence.

Does the sequence prove that the cited source generated the answer?

No. The visible path documents attribution and destination resolution, not private retrieval or generation causation.
