SEO Basics
Attribution
Attribution in marketing analytics is the assignment of credit for a measured outcome to touchpoints along a user's recorded path.
What it means
A rule-based or data-driven model decides which observed interactions receive credit for a key event. The result depends on identity, consent, lookback windows, channel definitions, missing observations and the selected model.
Why it matters
Organic search often assists rather than closes a conversion. Attribution can compare channel contributions under one declared model, but it does not prove that a touchpoint caused the outcome.
Example
A path contains organic search, email and a paid-search click before purchase; a last-click model credits the final eligible interaction, while a data-driven model may distribute credit using observed path data.
Common mistakes
Do not compare reports using different attribution settings, equate assigned credit with causal lift or hide unattributed and modelled events. Record the property, event, lookback window and model.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
key event, channel path, attribution model, lookback window, observed and modelled data
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can flag reports that mix incompatible models, scopes or conversion definitions.
Recommendation prepared
The proposal standardises the documented event and reporting configuration before comparing SEO outcomes.
Approval preview
The user sees the measurement scope, model, exclusions and expected reporting change.
Execution
AYSA can prepare tracking and reporting recommendations; analytics changes require the authorised property connection.
Verification
AYSA compares the configured model and event metadata with the resulting report after the change.
Limits
AYSA cannot recover unobserved journeys or turn attribution credit into causal proof.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Does attribution prove that organic search caused a conversion?
No. It assigns credit under a model; causal impact requires a separate experimental or causal-inference design.
