Attribution Link

An attribution link is a user-facing hyperlink that connects reused material, authorship information or a claim to the source or creator being credited.

What it means

The link should resolve to the specific source, creator or applicable license needed by the context. Creative Commons recommends Title, Author, Source and License information when supplied, while HTML also defines an `author` relationship for author information. Attribution alone does not grant permission, prove accuracy or imply endorsement.

Why it matters

Specific, crawlable credit lets readers inspect provenance and reduces ambiguous footers such as “source: internet” that cannot identify the reused work.

Example

A cropped CC BY photograph is accompanied by its title, creator, original-work link, CC BY 4.0 license link and a note that it was cropped; each link serves a distinct Attribution purpose.

Common mistakes

Do not link only to a homepage when a source URL exists, omit the creator or license, imply endorsement, use Attribution to excuse infringement, hide credit in inaccessible UI, replace editorial sourcing with paid placement or leave broken links.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

reused material, claim, creator, source URL, license, modification, link status, relationship qualification

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can identify missing or generic source links, broken credit paths and attribution mixed with undisclosed commercial relationships.

Recommendation prepared

The proposed credit names the work and creator, links the specific source and license, and records modifications when applicable.

Approval preview

The reviewer sees the reused material, source evidence, license terms supplied by the source, exact link and visible credit text.

Execution

AYSA can apply approved attribution and relationship attributes on supported owned-site content; it cannot determine every copyright permission automatically.

Verification

A rendered-page check confirms visibility, destination, link status and retained credit after publication.

Limits

Attribution does not by itself establish permission, accuracy, endorsement or complete legal compliance.
