An AI Overview Mention is an AI Search Mention observed specifically within a Google Search AI Overview response.
What it means
Google states that AI Overviews appear only when its systems determine they add value, and the responses and links can vary because AI features may use different models and techniques. A valid record therefore preserves the query, country, language, device, account state, visible Overview boundary, output span and capture time.
Why it matters
Google-specific evidence prevents ordinary snippets, AI Mode, featured snippets and copied screenshots from being counted as the same surface.
Example
For a logged-out mobile search in Romania, a visible AI Overview names a brand without linking its name; the screenshot and response span create a mention record while displayed source cards are stored separately.
