AI Visibility
AI Search Mention
An AI Search Mention is an AI mention captured inside a named AI-mediated search experience in response to a documented search query or prompt.
What it means
The subtype includes search and research products only when the tested surface visibly used web retrieval. Google describes AI Overviews and AI Mode as varying features with supporting links; OpenAI documents deep research outputs with citations and a source summary. These interfaces are not interchangeable and can change independently.
Why it matters
Naming the provider and surface prevents a chatbot answer, ordinary search result, AI Overview and sources panel from being blended into one visibility number.
Example
A Romanian query is tested in Google Search AI Mode while logged out and in ChatGPT Search while logged in; each captured mention remains a separate record with its own interface and source evidence.
Common mistakes
Do not label every chatbot response AI Search, merge providers, omit whether search ran, compare prompts as equivalent queries, count prompt echoes, infer retrieval causation or guarantee recurrence.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
provider, product, surface, search-active evidence, query, locale, device, account state, capture time
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify non-search responses, mixed products and captures missing the context needed for comparison.
Recommendation prepared
The workflow creates separate test definitions and occurrence records for each provider and surface.
Approval preview
The user sees the interface evidence, query, contextual variables, AI-assisted entity resolution and exact proposed classification.
Execution
AYSA can run supported monitoring captures and store approved observations; provider access and output remain externally controlled.
Verification
Scheduled reruns use the same declared test while retaining each output and interface version separately.
Limits
Search activation and personalization may be opaque, and provenance or human review does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is every AI-generated answer an AI Search Mention?
No. The captured surface must be search-oriented and the record must show that search was active.
Can Google AI Mode and ChatGPT Search counts be combined directly?
Not without a declared methodology; their interfaces, availability and source displays differ.
