AI Visibility Signal
An AI Visibility Signal is an observable input or outcome field used in a declared AI search analysis, with a named source, collection method and interpretation limit.
What it means
Examples include crawl access, Indexability, canonical consistency, entity conflicts, captured mentions, visible citations and official Impressions. These fields do not reveal how a provider weights information. Google explicitly warns that third-party tools do not have access to its internal ranking or AI systems, so an AYSA signal must never be labeled a Google ranking factor.
Why it matters
Source and type labels keep controllable website conditions, captured outputs and platform metrics from being combined into a fictional causal score.
Example
Canonical inconsistency is recorded as a publisher-controlled technical input, while an AI Mode supporting link is an observed outcome; the analysis may compare them but does not claim Google assigned either a weight.
Common mistakes
Do not call the field a provider factor, assign secret weights, mix inputs and outcomes, reuse stale captures, hide missing data, claim causation, aggregate incompatible surfaces or promise rankings.
