Duplicate title

A duplicate title occurs when two or more distinct URLs render the same or functionally indistinguishable HTML document title.

What it means

Duplication often comes from missing template variables, paginated views, product variants or boilerplate that omits the unique subject. The URLs may contain different content, so the title defect must be diagnosed separately from canonical duplication.

Why it matters

Identical titles make browser tabs, reports and search results harder to distinguish and give search systems weak document-identification signals. The correct fix depends on whether the URLs are unique, alternate or accidental duplicates.

Example

Every course page renders `Online Course | Academy` because the course name variable is empty. The template is corrected to include the verified course name while canonical relationships remain unchanged.

Common mistakes

Do not redirect URLs solely because titles match, add arbitrary keywords to make strings unique or ignore faceted and paginated templates. Determine whether the underlying pages deserve separate Indexing first.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

rendered titles, canonical URLs, template groups, unique entity fields, indexability

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can cluster duplicate titles and trace them to missing data, boilerplate or duplicate URL generation.

Recommendation prepared

The proposal separates title-template fixes from canonical, noindex or redirect decisions.

Approval preview

The user reviews URL groups, proposed unique fields and protected URL implications.

Execution

AYSA can update supported title templates after approval; destructive URL changes remain separately governed.

Verification

AYSA recrawls affected templates and confirms unique, accurate titles without changing protected slugs.

Limits

AYSA cannot infer which URL should consolidate when traffic and backlink evidence are unavailable.
