Duplicate URL

A Duplicate URL is a distinct web address whose primary content is identical or sufficiently similar to content available at another address for a specified comparison purpose.

What it means

Duplicates can arise from protocol, hostname, path, tracking, sorting, device or accidental publishing variants. The finding must record the exact URL, response and rendered primary content because shared navigation, a matching title or a common product component alone does not establish page-level duplication.

Why it matters

URL-level evidence lets teams consolidate real aliases while protecting legitimate regional, variant, filtered or paginated pages that serve different users or resources.

Example

The same article returns 200 at both its clean path and a tracking-parameter URL with unchanged rendered content, creating two distinct addresses for one primary document.

Common mistakes

Do not infer duplication from slugs alone, ignore rendered differences, call redirects duplicate pages, merge pages with different intent or assume Duplicate content is automatically a spam violation.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

exact URL, status, final URL, rendered primary content, similarity evidence, canonical, internal link, sitemap

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can cluster supported crawled URLs by response and content evidence while separating redirects, aliases and materially different pages.

Recommendation prepared

AYSA prepares a keep, normalize, canonicalize or redirect proposal for each verified set, preserving distinct intent and listing unknown evidence.

Approval preview

The reviewer sees every address, response, content comparison, proposed representative, affected signals, exclusions and rollback implications.

Execution

AYSA can apply approved owned-site signals on supported systems; no protected URL is removed or redirected solely because an automated similarity threshold matched.

Verification

AYSA recrawls the full set, confirms intended content and responses, checks direct targets and records whether Search-selected canonical evidence is available.

Limits

The evidence remains URL-, crawler-, platform- and time-bound; recommendations, generated drafts, approvals, crawls and monitoring do not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance, and applicable Article 50 transparency duties require a separate role-and-use assessment from 2 August 2026.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is every parameter URL a Duplicate URL?

No. A parameter may change content, inventory or intent; compare the rendered primary resource before classifying it.

Is duplicate content automatically spam?

No. Google documents many normal causes of duplication; deceptive or abusive behavior is a separate assessment.
