Featured answer
A featured answer is an analytical label for an answer that receives visibly prominent treatment within a declared interface, with the provider's native feature name retained separately.
What it means
Featured answer is not a universal provider term and must never replace labels such as Google's Featured snippet. Prominence can be documented through position within the component, size, expansion state or provider label, but it does not reveal an enduring rank. Google states that its systems decide whether a page becomes a featured snippet and publishers cannot mark a page as one.
Why it matters
A qualified analytical label supports cross-surface observation while preventing a made-up industry feature from being reported as provider fact.
Example
A study codes an expanded answer above other response modules as featured_answer=true, while also storing provider_feature=Featured snippet, query, device, locale and capture time.
Common mistakes
Do not present featured answer as an official product name, merge it with Featured snippet, infer permanence, convert prominence into rank, compare incompatible layouts or promise selection.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
provider feature name, prominence rule, component position, expansion state, query, device, locale, capture timestamp
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify undocumented featured-answer flags, provider labels replaced by analyst terminology and captures presented as permanent rank.
Recommendation prepared
The workflow stores the native feature and analytical prominence rule as separate versioned fields.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees the provider evidence, coding rule, capture context, uncertainty and explicit ban on permanence or ranking claims.
Execution
AYSA can classify supported public captures; it cannot designate, win or preserve a provider-controlled featured result.
Verification
Independent recoding checks the flag against the declared rule without overwriting the original capture.
Limits
Prominence is interface-specific, and classification evidence does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.
