LLM search
LLM search is a product category in which a large language model mediates query interpretation or response synthesis while a documented search or retrieval capability supplies information.
What it means
The LLM may plan queries, combine retrieved material or phrase the response, while product-level systems handle indexes, tools, safety controls and source presentation. A standalone model response without a documented retrieval operation should not be labelled LLM search.
Why it matters
This boundary prevents teams from attributing an entire product's search behavior, citations or ranking to the language model alone.
Example
An assistant interaction is recorded as LLM search when product documentation and the interface show web search was used; an offline model completion remains an LLM answer.
Common mistakes
Do not call all chat search, guess tool use from fluent facts, attribute source order to the model, infer hidden prompts or merge product and model versions.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
product documentation, tool-use indicator, retrieval evidence, visible sources, model and product version
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can flag unsupported search labels, guessed tool use and datasets that collapse model and product behavior.
Recommendation prepared
The record preserves known and unavailable fields and applies the search label only where retrieval evidence exists.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees the interaction evidence, classification rule, product boundary and disclosure checkpoint.
Execution
AYSA can review supported public or authorized interactions; it cannot inspect hidden prompts, tools or provider traces.
Verification
A second observation is stored independently because tool use and sources may vary between responses.
Limits
The evidence is operational and sample-bound; it does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance, and applicable Article 50 duties require a separate role-and-use assessment from 2 August 2026.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is every answer from an LLM a search result?
No. Search requires evidence that a search or retrieval capability operated in that interaction.
