Maps Visibility

Maps Visibility is the set of observed occasions on which a business appears in Google Maps for declared queries, locations, devices and times.

What it means

It can be summarized as coverage across a fixed observation set, but the denominator, missing-result handling and sponsored-result treatment must remain visible. Google documents relevance, distance and prominence for local results; it does not publish a universal Maps Visibility score for a business.

Why it matters

Coverage-based reporting shows where observations differ while preventing a proprietary summary number from being presented as a Google metric or permanent market fact.

Example

A pharmacy appears in 18 of 25 fixed mobile Maps observations for one query during a weekly run, with paid placements excluded and seven absences retained.

Common mistakes

Do not label an undocumented vendor score as Google data, change coordinates between periods, omit missing observations, combine different queries silently or promise full geographic coverage.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

query, coordinate, device, surface, appearance, sponsored status, missing state, timestamp

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can detect changing denominators, undocumented vendor scores, missing context and visibility reports that discard absent or failed observations.

Recommendation prepared

AYSA defines a fixed observation set and a coverage summary that preserves every result state and context change.

Approval preview

The user sees queries, coordinates, denominator, exclusions, collection frequency, data gaps and comparison rules.

Execution

AYSA can collect and summarize supported observations; it cannot set Google ordering or guarantee appearance at any coordinate.

Verification

AYSA validates completeness, recomputes coverage from raw states and blocks comparisons when the observation set changed materially.

Limits

The evidence remains business-, location-, platform- and time-bound; recommendations, generated drafts, approvals and monitoring do not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance, and applicable Article 50 transparency duties require a separate role-and-use assessment from 2 August 2026.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Does Google publish a universal Maps Visibility score?

No. This term describes a transparent analyst summary of declared observations, not an official hidden score.

Is Maps Visibility the same as one Maps rank?

No. Visibility covers a set of appearances, while a rank is one position under one declared context.
