Metric Tracking

Metric tracking is the repeated calculation and storage of a defined quantitative measure using a stable formula, source, dimensions, cadence and data-state policy.

What it means

A usable metric contract names the numerator, denominator, unit, aggregation, timezone, source and treatment of missing or revised data. GA4 and Search Console aggregate observations differently, so identical labels do not make two series comparable.

Why it matters

The contract lets reviewers distinguish a real change from a formula, Attribution, sampling or reporting-window change before acting.

Example

Organic lead rate is stored monthly as validated organic lead events divided by eligible organic sessions, with timezone, Attribution model and late-data revision recorded.

Common mistakes

Do not track a label without a formula, mix totals and rates, silently revise historical data, treat missing as zero, change Attribution without a break marker or confuse movement with business causation.

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can flag a missing denominator, changed formula, incompatible dimension or stale observation in a supported metric series.

Recommendation prepared

The finding requests definition repair or source validation before the metric is used to prioritize SEO work.

Approval preview

The reviewer sees the metric contract, affected observations and any proposed owned-site instrumentation change.

Execution

AYSA can prepare or apply approved supported WordPress instrumentation changes; external analytics configuration remains bounded by the available connection.

Verification

A test observation and later report value are recorded separately, including any reporting delay or revision.

Limits

Tracking quality depends on source and event quality, and a metric series does not by itself prove causation or commercial impact.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is a metric name enough to make a series comparable?

No. Formula, unit, dimensions, source, cadence and data-state rules must also remain compatible.

Does a metric increase identify its cause?

No. A time-series change is an observation; causal claims require an appropriate design and supporting evidence.
