Search snippet

A search snippet is the descriptive summary that a search engine displays for a page within a search result.

What it means

Google primarily creates snippets from page content and may use the Meta description when it better summarizes the page for a query. The displayed text can differ across searches and is separate from the clickable title link.

Why it matters

The snippet helps a user judge relevance before visiting the page. Clear page copy and a specific Meta description provide useful source material, but the search engine still chooses the displayed excerpt.

Example

A tax guide has a unique Meta description, but a query about filing deadlines triggers a paragraph containing the exact dates because that passage better previews the relevant answer.

Common mistakes

Do not call the Meta description the guaranteed snippet, stuff repeated keywords or measure only character length. Avoid confusing a regular snippet with a Featured snippet or rich result.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

meta description, visible answer passages, query-page match, duplicate descriptions, snippet controls

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can find generic descriptions, missing answer context and controls that unintentionally suppress useful text.

Recommendation prepared

The proposal improves the visible passage and metadata while documenting that display remains query dependent.

Approval preview

The user reviews the original and proposed page text, metadata and affected templates.

Execution

AYSA can update approved WordPress copy, descriptions and supported robots directives.

Verification

AYSA checks rendered metadata, uniqueness and later Search Console CTR trends without attributing every change to the snippet.

Limits

AYSA cannot force Google to display a specific description for every query.
