AI Query Understanding is an analyst workflow that maps a submitted AI search query or prompt to plausible meanings, entities, relationships and constraints for content planning or test design.
What it means
The workflow uses the literal input, language, conversation context, named entities and documented user needs to create reviewable interpretations. It can expose ambiguity and missing evidence, but it cannot reveal a provider's embeddings, rewritten searches, query fan-out, model routing or ranking decisions. Google documents that systems return relevant information for queries and that AI features may use fan-out; those disclosures do not expose a specific request's private processing trace.

An analyst-side definition supports useful briefs and test sets without presenting an interpretation model as privileged access to external systems.
