Backlink Profile

A backlink profile is a versioned dataset of observed external links pointing to one declared target, together with summaries derived under stated provider, scope, normalization and snapshot rules.

What it means

The target may be a URL, subdomain or domain. A reproducible profile retains source and target URLs, anchors, attributes, first- and last-seen observations, live state and grouping rules; it is the evidence object reviewed by a Backlink Audit, not the audit workflow itself.

Why it matters

Freezing provider and time prevents changing crawler coverage, duplicate rows and mixed target scopes from masquerading as a stable description of a site's authority or risk.

Example

A profile for `shop.example` combines two provider snapshots dated 28 July, normalizes redirected targets, groups source URLs by declared domain rules and reports active, new and lost observations without calling the export complete.

Common mistakes

Do not merge dates or providers silently, call first-seen publication time, treat a domain score as the profile, infer ranking impact from size, mix inbound with internal or outbound links, or describe any crawler as exhaustive.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

target type, provider, snapshot time, source URL, target URL, attribute, first seen, last seen

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can identify mixed target scopes, duplicate observations, missing provenance, incompatible dates and summaries that cannot be traced to raw rows.

Recommendation prepared

The profile is rebuilt as an immutable snapshot plus documented derived views before it enters comparison or audit.

Approval preview

The user sees source coverage, normalization, excluded rows, any AI-assisted classification, reviewer overrides and every derived count.

Execution

AYSA can import, normalize and version approved datasets; it cannot make external crawlers complete or change links on third-party pages.

Verification

Checksums, row counts and test cases reproduce each summary while later snapshots remain separate observations.

Limits

Coverage and classifications can change, and provenance, disclosures, logs or human review do not automatically certify AI Act compliance.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is a backlink profile the same as a backlink audit?

No. The profile is the evidence dataset; the audit is the review process that evaluates records and proposes decisions.

Can two tools show different backlink profiles for the same site?

Yes. Coverage, crawl schedules, normalization, target scope and retention rules can differ.
