SEO Basics
Black Hat SEO
Black hat SEO refers to manipulative optimization tactics that attempt to exploit search engine algorithms instead of helping users.
What it means
Black hat SEO includes practices such as Cloaking, hidden text, doorway pages, Keyword Stuffing, link schemes, automated spam pages and other tactics that violate search engine guidelines. These methods may try to create short-term ranking gains, but they do so by misleading crawlers, users or both.
Why it matters
Black hat SEO matters because it can lead to ranking drops, deindexing, manual actions and long-term trust damage. It is especially risky for businesses that depend on stable Organic traffic.
Example
An example is creating hundreds of doorway pages with near-Duplicate content only to capture city keywords, then redirecting users to the same commercial page.
Common mistakes
A common mistake is assuming a tactic is safe simply because it works temporarily. Another is outsourcing SEO without checking whether the provider is using manipulative Link Building or automated content schemes.
