Entity Authority

Entity authority is an informal phrase for the strength and relevance of evidence supporting confidence in an identified person, organization or source within a particular context.

What it means

It is not a universal metric or documented Google ranking factor. Evidence may include first-party credentials, independent references, demonstrated work and consistent provenance, but its weight depends on the claim and evaluator.

Why it matters

A well-known organization may be authoritative about its own policies yet unqualified to make medical claims. Evaluating authority by entity and topic prevents popularity, link counts or a Knowledge Panel from becoming blanket proof.

Example

A standards body is the primary source for its specification, while an independent laboratory supplies test results. A page cites each for the claim it is equipped to support.

Common mistakes

Do not invent an authority score, treat all backlinks as endorsements, use fame as proof outside the entity's field or describe quality-rater concepts as direct ranking inputs.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

claim owner, author credential, primary source, independent reference, citation path

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can flag owned content where material claims lack a qualified source, rely on circular citations or misstate an entity's role.

Recommendation prepared

The proposal assigns each claim to an appropriate source and labels unsupported inference separately from confirmed fact.

Approval preview

The user sees the claim, cited entity, provenance path, conflicting evidence and proposed wording.

Execution

AYSA can apply approved source, attribution and content corrections on supported owned pages.

Verification

AYSA checks visible citations and source links after publication and records unresolved evidence gaps.

Limits

AYSA cannot calculate a universal authority score or guarantee how a search or AI system weighs an entity.

Frequently asked questions

Is Entity Authority a Google score?

No public universal Entity Authority score or ranking factor is documented by Google.

Can one entity be authoritative for every topic?
