Crawlability

Crawlability is the degree to which a crawler can discover a URL, request it successfully and follow its useful links and resources.

What it means

A page can be public in a browser yet difficult to crawl because it has no discoverable links, is disallowed by Robots.txt, requires authentication, returns unstable server responses or depends on blocked rendering resources. Crawlability is therefore an access and discovery condition, not proof that a page will be indexed.

Why it matters

Indexing cannot begin with content a search crawler never reaches or cannot retrieve reliably. Checking crawlability also exposes broken navigation, accidental access controls and server failures that affect users independently of rankings.

Example

A new product category returns 200 when its URL is pasted into a browser, but no crawlable link points to it and its JavaScript navigation emits click handlers without href attributes. Adding ordinary links from the catalog and sitemap makes discovery testable; it still does not guarantee index selection.

Common mistakes

Do not equate a successful browser visit with crawler access, or sitemap presence with complete crawlability. Avoid testing only the HTML status while ignoring robots rules, authentication, DNS, mobile rendering, resource failures and whether links can be extracted.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

Discovery source, HTTP response, robots.txt decision, rendered links, resource and authentication failures

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can compare discovered URLs with live responses and rendered navigation to flag pages or resources that a crawler cannot reliably reach.

Recommendation prepared

The recommendation identifies the blocking layer and proposes a scoped change such as a crawlable link, corrected robots rule or server repair.

Approval preview

The user sees representative URLs, current access evidence, affected templates and the expected behavior after the proposed change.

Execution

AYSA can apply approved WordPress linking or supported configuration changes; authentication, DNS and application infrastructure remain owner or developer responsibilities.

Verification

AYSA requests the affected URLs again, rerenders representative pages and confirms that the intended paths and resources are discoverable and retrievable.

Limits

Restored crawlability does not guarantee recrawl timing, indexation or ranking.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Can a crawlable page still remain outside Google's index?

Yes. Crawlability only means the crawler can reach and retrieve the page. Indexing also depends on directives, canonical selection, content quality and other processing decisions.
