Link Neighborhood

A link neighborhood is an analyst-defined local subgraph around a seed page or domain, selected using declared edge direction, traversal depth, time window and inclusion rules.

What it means

One-hop inbound sources, outbound destinations and two-hop reciprocal paths are different neighborhoods. Results also change when nodes are pages versus domains, redirects are collapsed, template edges are deduplicated or qualified links are excluded. Google does not document a public “link neighborhood” score, so conclusions must remain tied to the chosen graph.

Why it matters

Explicit boundaries prevent a visual cluster from being misreported as proof of affiliation, manipulation, Topical relevance or search-engine treatment.

A review selects all first-hop inbound domains observed in 90 days plus their outbound edges to the seed, deduplicates sitewide template links and labels ownership or compensation only when independent evidence exists.

Common mistakes

Do not use “bad neighborhood” as a verdict, mix page and domain nodes, hide traversal depth, infer common ownership from proximity, treat one suspicious neighbor as contamination, omit time bounds or present a cluster score as Google's.
