Generative snippet
A generative snippet is an analytical label for a bounded generated excerpt or summary displayed inside a declared product result, with the provider's native feature name stored separately.
What it means
The phrase is not a universal provider feature and must not replace documented labels such as AI Overview, AI Mode response, generated summary or Featured snippet. Google says conventional snippets are automatically created primarily from page content, while its generative features have separate product behavior. Classification therefore requires provider evidence of generation and a visible snippet boundary.
Why it matters
A qualified label supports comparison of small generated components without misclassifying conventional snippets or inventing a new search feature.
Example
A study codes a two-sentence generated summary inside a product card as generative_snippet while retaining the provider label, query, component boundary, source links and timestamp.
Common mistakes
Do not call every snippet generative, replace provider names, infer generation from style, merge the component with the full answer, promise eligibility or treat brevity as a ranking factor.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
provider evidence, native feature label, component boundary, generated text, query, visible sources, device, locale, timestamp
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can identify conventional snippets misclassified as generated, missing provider labels and cropped components without reproducible context.
Recommendation prepared
The workflow stores native and analytical labels separately and requires an explicit component boundary.
Approval preview
The reviewer sees provider evidence, boundary, capture context, sources, uncertainty and prohibited feature or ranking claims.
Execution
AYSA can classify supported public captures; it cannot cause a provider to generate or display the component.
Verification
Independent recoding checks the same visible boundary and provider evidence.
Limits
The label is analytical and sample-bound, and review does not automatically certify AI Act or legal compliance.
