Zero-click search
A zero-click search is a search event or session that ends without the user clicking a result link, under a stated measurement methodology.
What it means
A user may obtain an answer on the results page, reformulate the query, leave the search service or interact with a module that the study counts differently. Estimates depend on the event boundary, device, market, bot filtering and whether Clicks to search-owned properties count.
Why it matters
The label describes behavior, not automatically satisfaction or publisher failure. Search Console reports a site's Impressions and Clicks, but it does not reveal every user's outcome or clicks to competing results, so site CTR is not a direct zero-click rate.
Example
A weather query records an impression for a publisher but no site click because the user reads an instant forecast. Another user refines the query; a study must state whether both cases are counted identically.
Common mistakes
Do not calculate market-wide zero-click rate as one minus a site's CTR, compare studies with different denominators or assume every no-click event answered the query. Separate observation from explanation.
How AYSA handles this
Signals reviewed
impressions, site clicks, CTR, query groups, SERP feature observations
Problem AYSA can identify
AYSA can find query groups where impressions rise without proportional site clicks while separating evidence from causal assumptions.
Recommendation prepared
The proposal identifies pages and queries needing clearer summaries, deeper value or alternative conversion measurement.
Approval preview
The user reviews metric definitions, data limits and proposed page changes before approval.
Execution
AYSA can improve approved landing-page content and tracking configuration on supported sites.
Verification
AYSA monitors Search Console and onsite outcomes with the same documented query and time comparisons.
Limits
AYSA cannot calculate platform-wide zero-click behavior from site data or guarantee that feature changes cause click changes.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Is a site's Search Console CTR enough to calculate zero-click searches?
No. Site CTR does not reveal clicks to other results, query reformulations, abandonment or every user's final outcome.
