Digital Entity

A digital entity is a context-dependent label for an identifiable thing represented in a digital system by one or more records, identifiers, attributes and relationships.

What it means

The represented thing may be physical, conceptual or natively digital, while its records are system-specific descriptions. W3C PROV similarly allows an entity to be physical, digital, conceptual or another kind of thing, but that vocabulary does not create an SEO category.

Why it matters

Separating the thing from its representations prevents a website page, CRM record and catalogue item from being mistaken for three different real-world entities or merged without evidence.

Example

A company has a legal registration, website, Business Profile and internal customer record. They may describe one organization, but each representation keeps its own identifier, provenance and update owner.

Common mistakes

Do not call every URL a distinct real-world entity, use a shared name as proof of identity or present Digital Entity as a documented Google ranking factor or guaranteed knowledge-panel object.

How AYSA handles this

Signals reviewed

record identifier, represented thing, source system, provenance, identity mapping

Problem AYSA can identify

AYSA can flag supplied website and catalogue records that merge namesakes or confuse a resource with the thing it describes.

Recommendation prepared

The proposal states the represented thing and preserves source-specific identifiers and evidence for cross-system mappings.

Approval preview

The user sees each record, identifier, proposed real-world association, supporting evidence and unresolved ambiguity.

Execution

AYSA can apply approved website identity and supported owned-catalogue corrections in connected systems.

Verification

AYSA validates identifiers, rendered facts and mapping provenance after the approved change.

Limits

AYSA cannot create or control an entity inside external search systems and does not guarantee knowledge-panel or AI selection.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is a website page itself always a separate entity?

No. A page may be a digital resource describing another thing; the modelling decision must state what is identified.

Is Digital Entity an official Google SEO term?

No. It is used here as a general modelling label, not a documented ranking factor or Google object type.
